How to be a domestic goddess

Weekend again already! Which we celebrate with a relaxed Friday evening and then sleeping in on Saturday. This always sounds like a good idea until I feel kind of funky from sleeping so long...

While I was conquering the laundry mountain this morning, I was also contemplating the title of a book I borrowed from the library a long time ago:

This contemplation was brought on by not only the laundry mountains but also by the impending visit of my mother, brother, sister-in-law, and my little niece. As far as I recall, my mother kept house very well, cooking delicious meals, keeping everything in order and spotless unobtrusively, taking care of three kids and the throngs of friends that we brought over, while maintaining a job as an ER nurse 'on the side'. She also used to sew a lot of our clothes. I have no clue how she did this, and clearly I have not inherited her talents.

However, I do have some clue about baking and comfort cooking. So although I will attempt to clean the house in the upcoming days, I am plotting to cover up my lack of skills (and motivation) in that department by baking some very delicious things to serve during their visit. I will keep you updated on how that goes!
